Office/Reception Staff
Margaret McCart, BS, MS, CVT
Margaret, who currently serves as our office manager, attended Oregon State for 3 years and finished her BS degree in Wildlife Science at the University of Wyoming. She continued at U of Wyoming, earning a MS degree in Parasitology. She began pursuit of a PhD in Parasitology at Purdue University and during the course of that became interested in Veterinary medicine. She returned to Oregon and worked in a small animal/exotics practice in Tigard for 14 years followed by 4 years in a surgical specialty practice. While working in the surgical practice Margaret was introduced to the benefits of physical therapy for animals which led her to a job at Back on Track. Margaret is owned by a special needs dachsund, C.J., and a JRT named Jewel.
Shelley Young
Shelley is a native Hawaiian who came to Portland over 20 years ago. Shelley received her degree in Music from Portland State. She is a volunteer naturalist at Oxbow State Park where she gives tours to school children. She also sings with the Columbia Chorale of Oregon and performed at Carnage Hall last year. She and her husband, Robert, are currently owned by 3 cats.
Lisa Dumont, CSAMP
Lisa is an original east coaster coming to us from Massachusetts after living in Ireland for 2 years. Lisa has extensive experience in pet rescue, volunteering with organizations in Mass., Ireland, and Portland. She is an experienced puppy raiser for Guide Dogs for Blind, and for Dogs for the Disabled. She currently has a chocolate lab, Gunner, who is a demo dog for Canines for Disabled Kids. She is a graduate of NW School of Animal Massage. Gunner shares her with husband, Andy and Mimmi the cat. Her interests include European travel, hiking, and hot sauces.
Rehab Technicians/Assistants
Laura Wilson, BS
Laura attended West Texas State University a long time ago where she received a BS in Chemistry/Physics. She taught Jr. High and High School science and math for 6 years, later pursuing a career in corporate OSHA training delivery and development. She came to OR in 1997 and ran a small business in Hillsboro with her sister. After 8 years in the dog wash and pet retail business, she came to Back on Track 2.5 years ago and is currently working towards her technician certification. She is also working towards her certificate in canine physical rehabilitation through the Canine Rehab Institute in Florida. She currently lives with 4 dogs, 3 cats, a ferret and a rat, all of which have interesting rescue stories. Her interests include flyball and animal assisted therapy.
Alicia Harget
Alicia is a Certified Hemodialysis Technician with Providence St. Vincent who shares herself with Back on Track as a Rehab Assistant on a part time basis. She has been working with Back on Track for over 2 years. She is an avid animal lovers and "mom" to 2 Great Danes, 3 turtles, and an increasing number of Koi fish. She has volunteered with several rescue groups, humane societies, and spay clinics.
Shawn Kay, CSAMP
Shawn joins us from Tennessee where she worked as a caregiver to three African Elephants at The Elephant Sanctuary, a non-profit organization created for unwanted, injured or ill circus and zoo elephants. After she moved to Portland, Shawn graduated from the NW school of Animal Massage as a Certified Small Animal Massage Practitioner. She later began working at a holistic pet clinic as an assistant. Shawn's interests in massage and rehabilitation led her to Back on Track. She hopes to continue her education in animal massage and rehabilitation to better serve the patients of Back on Track as well as her own crew. She and her husband, Willis, share their home with 4 dogs and 3 cats. Her interests include wildlife conservation, kayaking, hiking and yoga.
Daniel P. Spaniel, RTD
Found along a rural TX highway, brought to a shelter, and shuffled into foster care, this somewhat naughty 4 month old spaniel mix's talent for comfort and care were recognized and harnessed by our technician, Laura. He is currently a Delta Society Register Therapy Dog and has been for nearly 6 years. Daniel has assumed Back on Track's roles of official meeter/greeter, part-time rehab assistant, and part-time therapy dog. He uses his skills acting as demo dog for exercises, foot wrapping, etc., offers calming support to nervous pets and people, and lends loving comfort to those who are saying forever goodbyes to a beloved family member. He was recently recognized by the Delta Society with an Honorable Mention in the Beyond Limits Animal Therapy Awards for 2006 and by the OVMA with an Oregon Animal Hall of Fame Award in 2007. His interests include working with developmentally delayed kids at the ARC of Washington County, cookie tasting, getting petted, and napping.
